The bare facts:
1. TreeHouse Foods, Inc. owned and operated a pickle processing plant in La Junta, Colorado, that employed 153 workers.
2. In June, 2005, Michell Obama, graduate of Harvard Law School and wife of Presidential candidate Barack Obama, was elected to the board of directors of TreeHouse Foods, Inc.
3. In November, 2005, TreeHouse Foods, Inc. announced plans to close its La Junta pickle plant due to reduced pickle sales. Presumably, nobody wanted to buy the plant.
4. About 11 or 12 percent of TreeHouse Foods annual sales are to WalMart.
5. Senator Barack Obama has been vocal in his supporting an effort to get WalMart to treat its workers better.
Thus, the tabloid-style headline in The Chicago Business News:
“Sen. Obama sees no hypocrisy in his wife’s post at a firm that does business with Wal-Mart”
Well . . . the reason Senator Obama sees no hypocrisy in this situation is because there isn’t an ounce of hypocrisy to be found or implied anywhere in it. The overly emotional and irrational writing of The Chicago Business News’ article is an absolute horror to contemplate.
Just because a lot of people are more than willing to swallow this type of garbage is not sufficient reason to dish it out.
