The opposite of citizen is . . .
In Seth’s blog post Citizens, he ponders a name for those individuals with whom a marketer has not yet established a relationship. Seth writes:
“Citizen recognized the power of this individual. Citizens are no longer the weak, isolated pre-consumers in front of a TV set in 1971, with few options.”
The ancient Greeks, who were generally very big on civic life, had a word for those who remained private and isolated, and who refrained from public participation.
That Greek word was ‘idiotes,’ the source for the English word ‘idiot.’
