My Squidoo Lenses:

  • Carmen’s angels
My partner Carmen Cameron is a natural artist, which means that she has never received any training. In fact, during her childhood the nuns and her mother actively discouraged Carmen from expressing her artistic abilities. Then, an ex-husband was equally discouraging. It has only been late in life during the trauma of an ugly divorce that Carmen broke free of her psychological restraints and began to draw. Also as a natural mystic and visionary, Carmen’s illustrations were based upon her vivid visualizations and dreams of angelic beings that came with messages of comfort during her times of troubles. I created this lens of Carmen’s visionary angel art to share her work and her story with a wider audience.
  • Fine jewelry — Cat totem
In religion, myth and folklore, the domestic cat frequently appears playing a central role. The Egyptian goddess Bast was pictured as a cat or with a cat’s head. Shasthi, the Hindu goddess of childbirth, is shown riding upon a cat’s back. But the shamanic totem significance of the cat has more to do with the essential characteristics of the species. The attributes frequently associated with the cat are curiosity, strong survival instinct, and independence may give a clue to the personal characteristics, or aspirations, of those attracted to the symbol of the cat. From a psycho-spiritual and more mystical context, the cat’s enhanced ability to see in the dark represents a general ability to see what others do not. The negative aspects associated with the cat, aloofness and nervousness, serve as warnings of tendencies to guard against. For those drawn to cat medicine, I have created a collection of fine silver and gold cat jewelry.
  • Fine jewelry – Frog totem
The frog occupies two entirely different worlds during its lifetime. Frogs lay their eggs in water, where the eggs hatch into tadpoles with gills. Tadpoles cannot survive out of water. Tadpoles have no lungs or legs, at first. As they grow and develop, legs sprout, lungs appear, and the long tail used for swimming slowly goes away. At a critical stage of transition, the tadpole’s gills cease to function. The creature is no longer a water-breathing tadpole, it has become an air-breathing frog. The frog symbolizes profound transformation from the watery world of emotion to the world of air and spirit. The popular mythology of children’s fairy tales reflect the essential theme of transformation associated with frogs. The story of an enchanted prince who appears as a frog, but who is restored to his original form by a princess’ kiss, captures the meaning of frog.
