The Learning Curve

New tricks for an old dog.

Permission marketing – the list

For you see, there once was a man with a list of names that he had fastened to a clipboard, and he carried this list around town with him where ever he went. If he chanced to meet someone on the street, he would consult his list and say:

“I can whip your ass.”

Most people would be shocked to hear him say this. Some would be frightened, thinking him insane. Some would try to change the conversation to a different topic. Others would just ignore him.

One day a lumberjack came to town for supplies. He had a chest three feet wide and bulging biceps. As he was walking down the street, he encountered the man with the clipboard, who after looking at his list, announced, “I can whip your ass.”

The lumberjack thought about it for a second and said. “No you can’t.”

The man with the list replied, “Oh, OK. I’ll take your name off my list then.”

  2. Good post!

Of course, in the wonderful world of Internet Marketing, the guy with the clipboard would have asked the lumberjack to sign permission twice before adding his list in the first place.
