The Learning Curve

New tricks for an old dog.

No victory is ever final

Silly me. I thought that the word processor software competition was decided back in the early 1990’s, with Microsoft Word winning the grand prize. But, it seems the battle fires have been lit again.

Google Docs took aim at Microsoft’s dominance not long ago. Last week OpenOffice.org issued a press release announcing that IBM “joined the community to collaborate on the development of OpenOffice.org software.” Just now I read in TechCrunch, “Yahoo will announce the acquisition of open source online/offline office suite Zimbra.”

I, of course, still miss my IBM Selectric.
