The Learning Curve

Search trends as metaphor

The breaking news of the day comes from Google, as it released information about the top search trends for 2010.

“Instead of bookmarks, most people were also using Google as an online address book to search for their most frequently visited sites like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Facebook and Twitter.”

To my way of thinking, there seems to be something that’s just wrong about using Google search to find a link to Twitter. If a person can remember “Twitter” to type it into a Google search box, how much more difficult is it to remember “” to type directly into a browser?

I’m not going to say anything about needing a map to find one’s own rear-most parts, but I’m thinking it.
