The Learning Curve

New tricks for an old dog.

Imprecise prognostications or lies?

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) accused both the president and House Speaker John Boehner of ling about the need to increase the debt limit by Aug. 2. At the same time, Gohmert, along with Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Steve King (R-Iowa), introduced a bill on Wednesday that would require the president to pay off interest on the nation’s debt first, if the debt limit is not increased by Aug. 2. It is either a problem or it isn’t. If there is no urgency about the August 2 drop-dead date, then there is no urgency about Gohmert’s proposed legislation. If there is indeed an urgent need to make provision to pay the Nation’s debts, then there was no lie.
